Summer
2008 ...
LM
- June 29, 2008
Hi Folks.
I was in Whitehorse for 7 weeks in the winter to produce
the "Yukon Women in Music" CD. I had
a wonderful, life changing time. The songwriters and musicians
are great, and they have a really supportive scene up there.
They're hoping to release the CD in Sept 2008. When that
happens there will be a link. I couldn't have done anything
without the help of engineer Christine Church. She's owns
a studio in Vancouver called "The Garage" ...
it's on the links page.
I've just released "Black Flowers
Vol 1". This
is a solo CD, just me and my guitar/piano. All the songs
have appeard on my other produced CD's, except for the
song "When My Ship Comes In" ... my plan is to
release Vol 2 in six months, Vol 3, six months after that.
The goal is to record all my songs (I've written about
600) in this format.
So on each CD there will be previously recoreded songs,
and songs that have never been recorded.
I'm really looking
forward to The Stewart Park Festival in Perth Ontario.
I'll be doing my duties hosting the songwriters circle.
I do this every year ... and it's a high point of my summer.
Also, I'm going to perform and emcee at the Shelter
Valley Festival. This is a really special festival, I highly
recommend it. It has the most beautiful stage ...
Lynne
Hanson, who pulled me out of the dark ages and set up and
maintains this web site, has a great new CD out called "Eleven
Months" ...
she's on the links page (there's some harmony singing
by yours truly).
Happy summer.

Ottawa
musicians pay tribute to Alanis...
LM
- February 5, 2008 |
 |
 |
On Monday,
Feburary 11, the CBC Radio programs Canada Live and Bandwidth are
going to be staging a phenomenal concert, honouring Ottawa's own success story, Alanis
Morissette.
As Alanis is being inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame, CBC
Radio decided to ask Ottawa musical talents to come out and interpret Alanis
songs in their own way, at the National Arts Centre studio.
On the roster:
Jazz pianist great D.D. Jackson... Juno-winning roots favourite Lynn Miles...
Opera star Donna Brown with pianist Peter Tiefenbach... African guitarist The
Mighty Popo... CBC Radio poetry champion Q The Romantic Revolutionary... and...
the pop sensations who are all the buzz... Amos The Transparent.
Each of them will be performing Alanis songs with their own twist... and the
finale might well bring down the house.
The event will be hosted by Alan Neal (the host of Bandwidth
and Canada Live).
The NAC studio of course only seats so many people... and many many music fans
want to get into this show...
So, how do you get tickets?
You have to win them!
Send your name to cbctickets@cbc.ca to
win a pair of tickets.
The big draw for the 100 winners will be this Thursday February
7, so get them
in before then!
If you win, you'll be notified by email.
Good luck, and we hope to see you at the show on Monday night!
Also, the show will then be broadcast nationally on Canada Live (CBC Radio Two)
on March 6 and on Bandwidth (CBC Radio One) on March 8th.

Updates
and other happenings ...
LM - January
8, 2008
I just played a "Girls do Boys" show
@ Hughs room in Toronto. I played a couple of Fred Eaglesmith
songs, lots of fun. There were some great performances especially
by Sue Foley and Roxanne Potvin,
both from Ottawa ... is there something in the water?
I'm about to go to the Yukon for 6 weeks. I've been chosen to produce the "Yukon
Women in Music Project", which is a compilation CD of twelve Yukon singer/songwriters.
I'll be staying in Whitehorse, and I can't wait. All I need now is a really warm
pair of boots.
I've been writing a play for several years now, and I'm working with a director/co-writer
named Derek Scott. I've known him for years. We met in Seville
Spain when I was playing at the Canadian Pavilion at Expo in 1992, he was
in charge of the comedians, clowns, and street performers. He's very funny.
I'm also getting ready to record a new CD. I don't exactly know when it
will be out ... but I'm working on it.
I've been reading a lot, here are some titles I've enjoyed:
Late Nights on Air - Elizabeth Hay (another Ottawa artist ...)
Endgame; Volume 1 The Problem of Civilization - Derrick Jensen
The Heart Is an Involuntary Muscle - Monique Proulx
Born Standing Up - Steve Martin (yes that Steve Martin)
This web site was put together by Lynne Hanson. She's a fine
singer/songwriter FROM OTTAWA ... and I thank her so much for helping a Luddite
like me.
Floss!!!!!
